Hearing Examiner Rebecca Zanetti Recomends Approval for Storage Depot

Why Oppose The Storage Depot?

Another Mini Storage facility is planned for Mica Flats! We need your help!

A storage complex project, covering 10 acres, has been proposed for highway 95, north of Kidd Island Road, on the west side of the roadway.   This may consist of 148 units, 50'x100" and 100' x 100', 22 feet high, "obscured" behind a 6' fence.  This project would be 600 - 1000 feet north of Carnie Road.

A hearing has been scheduled for 6 PM, Thursday, February 12th, 2009 with the Kootenai County Board of County Commissioners at the Kootenai County Administration Building, 451 Government Way, Coeur d'Alene, ID (lower floor meeting room).

Please submit your comments and letters as soon as possible to the Building & Planning Department, P.O. Box 9000, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83816-9000, or by facsimile 208-446-1071, or contact them at 208-446-1070. You may also send an email to Scott Clark, Building & Planning Director at kcpz@kcgov.us. The deadline for public comment on this matter is February 2nd, 2009.

Although this development may be allowed, by conditional use permit, in a rural zone, this "commercial" appearing complex is not compatible with the pastoral, agricultural, and scenic nature of the Mica Flats community.  Such issues as traffic congestion, crime, light pollution, intrusion of noise, non-resident activity at all hours in our quiet residential area, and the appearance of commercial sprawl must be considered.  The creation of this complex will set a precedent for many more storage warehouses along the 95 corridor in our community.

Since the earlier attempt to locate a similar storage warehouse complex in April  2005, our community has submitted two written documents to the county, clearly stating our wishes to remain a rural, agricultural community with low density and NO commercial entities.

Send your comments to the Planning department by February 2nd, 2009, and plan to attend the hearing examiner hearing February 12th.  Please forward this message.  A strong opposition by many people can keep commercial development from the Mica Kidd Island community!
