The past two and a half years, since the formation of MKIPOA, have opened my eyes to the positive influence that motivated neighborhood volunteers can achieve. With the support of our members, we are building a network that will enhance the cohesiveness of our community, and present our mission of maintaining our rural area, with a strong and unified voice.
Thanks to our volunteers I would like to thank past Board Members; Chris Shelton, Nancy King, Kassie Silvas, and Stan Allison, for their dedication and continued support of our association.Nancy King continues to volunteer her time, helping our new Board of Trustees further improve our network.
New Board of Trustees Patrick Murphy, President; Karen Scott, Vice-President; Martha Cook, Secretary; Nan Swendig, Treasurer; Beth Paragamian, and Craig Fairfield. Our Board of Trustees meet monthly to address association issues.Feel free to contact us for time & location of the upcoming meeting, as we welcome your participation in achieving our association's goals.
Community members impact process You can see the impact neighborhood associations, such as ours, are having on the decision making process.Applicants for change hire articulate council to present their case, because they know that their application will be scrutinized by articulate well informed community members.I am inspired by the growing number of volunteers who donate their time and expertise to the goal of maintaining our rural community. The recent incorporation of the county coalition of neighborhood associations, United Citizens for Responsible Growth (UCRG), is a great stride in our ability to network with other areas of the county. Successful opposition We have recently had great successes in opposing four issues in our area. The zone change request for 35 acres at the top of the Mica grade was recommended for denial by the county hearing examiner. The developer withdrew his request before the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) hearing. The application for a private marina adjacent to Gould?s Landing in Mica Bay was denied by the Idaho Department of Lands. The zone change request for 66 acres overlooking Kidd Island Bay was denied by the BOCC.The application for a ?conservation design subdivision? on Loffs Bay Road has been withdrawn.I know the successful opposition has many facets, but I truly believe that MKIPOA has had a significant impact on the desired outcome.
Make time for your community I am grateful to live in a community that not only cherishes its history and identity, but also has the motivation to preserve that identity! Please volunteer your time, expertise, or other resources to our worthy cause. You will find volunteering with MKIPOA to be both, educational and exhilarating. With dedication and determination we can maintain our community, well into the future!
