A request for a conditional use permit to build a 148 unit Storage Depot on the west side of Hwy 95, just south of mile marker 424 has been submitted to the  Kootenai County Planning Department.  You may think “Great!  I can store my boat, car or RV there”, but have you considered the impact this will have on the quiet rural setting that we all so desire.  If this is approved it will open the door to further commercial sprawl in our community.  Do you want Hwy 95S to look like Hwy 95N lined with service stations, fast food, convenience stores, strip malls and stop lights?  We are a mere 6 miles from town.  Is that really inconvenient when you consider sacrificing the quality of life we all enjoy?  We need to stop this and stop it now.  IT WILL TAKE EVERYONES ACTIONS, be it letters or emails to Planning and Zoning and attending hearings to let them know you are in complete opposition to the proposal to build storage units on Mica Flats or any other commercial venture.

WHY OPPOSE THE STORAGE DEPOT?

· To maintain pleasant, pastoral setting of community and visual tone as the gateway to Coeur d’Alene.

· Do not want to set the precedent for future commercial sprawl.

· Do not want stoplights on highway.

· It is not a necessity, merely a luxury.

· Degrades property values.

· Negatively impacts abundant wildlife.

· No benefit to majority of homeowners in Mica Flats area as they have adequate acreage for storage and no CC&Rs.

· Creates a highly visible eyesore.

· Deteriorates quality of life with unwanted lighting, alarms, and increased traffic.

· Incompatible with the rural designation and atmosphere of our community.

· Incompatible with the historical atmosphere of old century farms, barns and Grange Hall.

· Storage facilities are easily accessible in town a mere 10 minutes away.

· The project only serves a few to the detriment of many.
